Save on heating costs and increase comfort and convenience at the same time? A FRITZ!Box and the smart FRITZ! radiator control can help you out. Conveniently set the room temperature using the schedule feature. Your living room will be nice and cosy at just the right time, and your bathroom pleasantly warm when you're getting ready in the morning. In this guide we give you tips on how to save money and protect the environment with automatic heating plans.

Smart radiator controls for convenience

A FRITZ!Box with a DECT base station and the FRITZ!DECT 302 and 301 radiator controls are the perfect combination for smart temperature control. Your FRITZ!Box supports up to fifty radiator controls, which you can connect to your FRITZ!Box at the touch of a button and install on your radiators in a few simple steps.

Save on heating costs with individual schedules

You save heating costs by configuring individual switching schedules. You specify on the FRITZ!Box user interface when you want the desired temperature to activate and when the temperature should be lower – individually for each room. The preheating phase of the ‘Adaptive Heating Start’s ensures that the desired temperature is reached at the time you set.

This ensures your bedroom is at the right temperature at night, in the morning bathroom is nice and warm and during the day when nobody's at home, FRITZ! radiator controls lower the temperature automatically. Right on time for when the family gets home, your living room is all nice and warm. By automatically regulating your home's radiators you save up to 10% of heating costs.

Open window detection is sophisticated: FRITZ! radiator controls detect when you open the windows to ventilate and then close the radiator valve so that no energy is wasted – this function can be enabled at multiple levels between 5 and 120 minutes. You can also use the FRITZ!DECT 350 door/window contact to detect whether the window is open or closed.

Three tips for the best heating strategy

Around 70% of household energy consumption is used for heating. An optimized strategy alone can help heat effectively and reduce energy consumption. Various factors play a role, but these tips will help you get off to a good start:

Ideal room temperatures: Different rooms have different demands. In your living room, 20 to 22 degrees Celsius is ideal, while around 18 degrees is warm enough for the bedroom. For the bath a temperature of around 22 degrees is recommended. These values are guidelines you can adjust at will.

Use cooling-down periods: When rooms are not used for a while, the temperature can be reduced. What's important is that the cool-down temperature of the FRITZ!DECT 302 be set to no lower than 16 degrees. Depending on insulation and other circumstances, a slightly higher cool-down temperature may make sense.

Regular ventilation: Fresh air provides for a good indoor climate and reduces humidity, which reduces the risk of mould. Practical: The FRITZ!DECT 302 detects open windows and automatically lowers the temperature of the radiators for a few minutes. Alternatively, the FRITZ!DECT 350 door/window contact can be configured for open window detection to control heating even more efficiently.

Factors such as insulation, window position and the placement of the radiators in the room will influence your heating strategy. Additional useful information can be found on the Federal Environment Agency's website or from the consumer advice centre.

At home and on the go: control your heating

With the FRITZ!App Smart Home, you control your FRITZ! radiator controls– both at home and on the move. This allows you to access your FRITZ! Smart Home and adjust settings as needed. The versatile FRITZ!DECT 440 four-way smart switch is also handy; if you want, it can also be used to control your radiator controls. It can also serve as the temperature sensor for controlling FRITZ!DECT 302 and 301.

Clever extras

Boost mode: At the touch of a button, the FRITZ! radiator controls start heating up so that you are quickly in the warm – which is especially useful if you get home earlier than planned.

Holidays: Enter when you're on holiday in the FRITZ!Box interface. Your FRITZ! Smart Home automatically ensures that the temperature does not drop too low, protecting your radiators from limescale and frost. And when you get back home, it will be all be warm and cosy.

Define heating groups: Do you have several radiators in one room? Define the corresponding FRITZ!DECT 302 and 301 devices as a heating group and they'll heat up the room with shared settings.

Limescale protection: Radiator controls protect the radiator valve against limescale build-up by regularly opening and closing it for brief intervals.
